The Fishing Card is a very economical option that is suitable for anglers and families alike. With the Fishing Card in your pocket, you can fish almost unlimitedly in 36 fishing lakes across the country, as well as camp free of charge at many of them. Now people finally have the opportunity to stop at beautiful lakes, for a short or long time, without having to spend a lot of time figuring out where to go to buy a fishing license, or whether there are fish in the lake and so on.
The card comes with a nice brochure that contains descriptions of the fishing areas, rules, maps and pictures. The brochure also contains basic information in English. All text in the brochure can be found at www.veidikortid.is in both Icelandic and English, and an electronic version can also be accessed.
General rules
The fishing card is addressed to one person and cardholders must mark the card with their ID number in the box provided. When registering with a landowner or game warden, the fishing card and personal identification must be shown or according to the rules in the brochure. Hunters are encouraged to walk carefully around the fishing areas and not leave behind trash or other traces.
The card is valid for one adult and children under 14 years of age accompanied by the cardholder. The cardholder must mark the back of the card with their ID number.
Fishermen must respect the rules presented on the lakes’ information pages, but different rules may apply between the lakes.
